Generate your first document — ribbon click walk-through
Open a record, click the Templ8r ribbon button, pick a template, click Generate. Word + PDF land on the Timeline in 1–3 seconds.
After the solution is installed and the Application User is provisioned, generation is one click from any record form.
The flow
- Open the record (Sales Order, Quote, Invoice, or any entity wired with the ribbon).
- Click Generate document in the command bar.
- The Templ8r modal opens. The dropdown lists templates your Dataverse role allows you to use.
- Pick a template. Pick the timeline format (Word / PDF / both / both-zip).
- Click Generate. Within 1–3 seconds you see download buttons + an "Open in D365" link.
- Refresh the record's Timeline tab. The new Note carries the generated document.
Choosing a timeline format
Word is the default — fastest, smallest file, edits-friendly. PDF takes ~3 seconds cold-start (LibreOffice on our side). Both gives you two notes (one Word, one PDF). Both-zip gives you a single note with a .zip containing both — quieter timeline, one click to download both formats.
Where the document lives
On the customer's side (your D365)
Every generated document is attached to the source record's Timeline as a Note (annotation). Anyone with read access to the record sees it. The audit log is built in — Notes are first-class Dataverse rows.
On Templ8r's side
By default we store a copy in our blob (per-tenant path, encrypted) so the modal can offer instant re-downloads. Switch to ephemeral mode (Tenant settings → Output retention) if your policy forbids us holding a copy at all — the bytes flow straight to your Timeline annotation and never persist with us.
Re-generating
Same record, same template? Click Generate again — produces a new Note. Old Notes aren't deleted; you have full version history on the Timeline forever (or until you delete them yourself).
